Metacoda are proud to support the Australian Koala Foundation (AKF), a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to the conservation and effective management of the wild koala and its habitat. This year, we had the opportunity to inform delegates at SAS Forum Deutschland about the worrying decline in the koala population.
One way the AKF helps to protect these wonderful animals is to encourage people from all over the world to ‘adopt’ or ‘foster’ a koala. The money raised helps to protect koalas and their natural habitat.
Name the Koala Competition
In our earlier blog, we explained how SAS Forum Deutschland delegates had the chance to win their own toy cuddly koala and adopt one. All they had to do was to either tweet the name of the koala to @sas_d @metacoda #sasf15 or write their suggested name on the back of their business card and drop it into the box provided.
40 Suggestions and One Lucky Winner
We were delighted with the response to the competition. Some of our favourite names included; Kushel, Eukoala, Metakoala, Cody and Knuffel. We were pleased to have so many contributions. You can see more on our Facebook photo album.
During the evening entertainment and BBQ, we drew the winning entrant; ‘Coolio’ suggested by Dr. Wolfgang Schwan. Dr. Schwan not only got to take home the toy cuddly Koala, we have also proudly adopted ‘Fingal’, on his behalf, at Lone Pine Sanctuary in Brisbane, Australia.
You too could have your Own Toy Cuddly Koala or Adopt a Real One
We’d like to congratulate Dr Wolfgang Schwan and thank all of you who entered the competition. If you missed the chance to take home your own toy cuddly koala, or even adopt a real one; you still can – simply visit the AKF’s online shop.

I was pleasantly surprised on hearing that I was the lucky winner in the name the koala competition.
But when I realized that metacoda would adopt a real koala on my behalf just knocked me off my feet. I’m very pleased and thankful hearing that your company is sponsoring the adoption. I wholeheartedly agree that we all should do something to keep the koala population in Australia at a high level. Hopefully I will be able to visit Fingal in person in the future.
Wolfgang
Thanks for entering the competition Wolfgang and we are pleased to be adopting Fingal on your behalf. Let us know if you plan to come to Australia and we’ll organise for you to visit him!
