I saw this cartoon a while ago and I thought it depicted an interesting and humorous notion of perspective. It shows how an individual’s perception depends on how they assess and action a situation. Similarly, I’ve heard a Japanese proverb about perspective that says… The reverse side also has a reverse side. :-)
The thought of perspective, and different points of view, reminded me of our Metacoda Plug-ins and how they help SAS® administrators view their SAS metadata from alternative angles. If someone can’t access a report, but their colleagues in the same team can, a SAS administrator can quickly search for the report using the Metacoda Object Permissions Explorer to see the effective permissions. This shows all identities (users and groups) and the level of access they have to the troublesome report. The SAS administrator may notice the person has no access, when their colleagues do, and question why there is a difference. With a quick flick to the User Reviewer (another perspective) they can see the identity hierarchy (every group the person is a member of) and may notice they are not a member of an essential group that provides access to the report.
The ability to quickly change perspectives whilst troubleshooting enables higher productivity by reducing the time it takes to resolve issues. As David Shannon from Amadeus said… “Metacoda’s Plug-in should be a standard product for SAS platform administrators. By providing 360 degree vision of security on your platform from a single location, it is essential for any organisation with auditable or demonstrable security requirements.”
